8. Mojo Man - Scott Adams

Lost Decade is a document of recordings Alex Chilton made during the 1970s as both solo performer and producer. "The Artist" half features the brilliantly sloppy "Bangkok"/"Can't Seem to Make You Mine" single, a couple of outtakes from the chaotic Bach's Bottom period, and four songs from a post-Box Tops, pre-Big Star session. Three of these early solo tunes later turned up on 1970, but were subsequently re-mixed. Only a diehard would notice the difference, but then who else would search out this collection? The majority (if not all) of the other tracks have since re-appeared on various (and less expensive) Chilton releases over the years. "The Producer" portion features rare recordings produced by the artist, in which he often lent a hand instrumentally as well as vocally. The unremarkable blues- and country-flavored numbers will do little to satisfy the faithful (though the rockin' bluegrass of Grady Whitebread's "Bus Trip" does have its moments), but the side devoted to Scott Adams will fascinate, as it foreshadows the producer's own loose solo material. Chilton seems to have been particularly influenced by Adams' vocal style, and the desperate honesty in lines like "the trouble is nobody cares" would find a home on the then work-in-progress, Third/Sister Lovers. - (All Music Guide)

The Radiators - Cockles and Mussels: The Very Best of the Radiators

requested..

The Radiators From Space were a  Dublin punk band, formed in 1975, the first ever Irish punk rock group maybe.  The band  moved to London signing to Chiswick Records and released a couple of  classic punk singles ,  'Television Screen' and 'Enemies' both from 1977 . The same year saw the release LP 'TV Tube Heart' (tracks 1 -7) ........ Shortening the group name to the Radiators.  The band then set to work with Tony Visconti.  On what turned out to be the final and best album 'Ghostown' (1979 tracks 9-18 ) . The album failed to chart . Despite a  slew of  positive  reviews . Post  'Ghostown' there was an ep and a couple of singles. The Radiators broke up in 1981.... 'Cockles and Mussels' is an excellent overview of a truly great band.

HIGH RISE - LIVE

re-post

High Rise are Asahito Nanjo , bass and vocals, Munehiro Nari , guitar . The duo use different drummers to complete the line up . Pounding the skins here is Yuro Ujiie..'Live' is speedy, raw , high octane rock'n'roll. At times the hard rock grove  shifts off it's axis Pop  Sicle is where  the music shape shift into   free-form-jazz- ragga-esque direction . !! '. Comparable to Blue Cheer only heavier . So heavy you're gonna have to reinforce the floor joists. !!!!

Robert Calvert - Lucky Leif and the Longships

re - post

Second solo Lp from Hawkwind vocalist Robert Calvert, who penned 'Silver Machine' and more. Check out 'Space Ritual'. .. . 'Lucky Leif' is based on an alternative USA , discovered by the Vikings. The concept being .Human nature being what it is . Doesn't matter who got there first . People end up the same . But hey !..The Native Americans would have gotten a better deal , maybe.....Eno produced 'Lucky Leif' , creating an eclectic mix of musical genres. 'Brave New World' is a piano ballad that wouldn't sound out of place on 'Before and After Science' .Third song in 'Voyaging to Vinland' ,a sea shanty taps directly into Norse folklore . 'Lay of the Surfers" with its 'bar bar barbarians' parodies the Beach Boys' and the opening track 'Ship of Fools' has a Celtic rock vibe ......Don't expect any spacerock !

Robert Calvert / Vocals, fjord horn, trumpet, harmonica, percussion, globe, Aeolian piano
Paul Fraser Rudolph / Bass, Rhythm and lead guitars, backing vocals , percussion

Alrune Rod - Hej Du

requested....

1.Du Taler Og Sir’ - 7 ; 45
2.Hej Du - 15 ;05
 3.Perlesøen - 21 ; 49

Alrune Rod, colloquially referred to as 'Alrunen', were formed in 1968 by Leif Roden and are considered to be the pioneers in Danish psychedelic and artistically oriented rock music, along with acts like BURNIN' RED IVANHOE , STEPPEULVENE, CULPEPPER'S ORCHARD, BLUE SUN and ACHE. Alrune Rod debuted with the single 'Tæl Aldrig I Morgen Med' in 1968 and the full length studio album 'Alrunes Rod' in 1969, followed by the highly acclaimed 'Hej Du' in 1970 and 'Alrune Rock' in 1971, which was released in a Danish language version and an English language version. The remaining three albums 'Spredt For Vinden' from 1972, '4-vejs' from 1974, and 'Tatuba Tapes' from 1975 are generally considered sub par compared to their earlier releases. Nonetheless, 'Tatuba Tapes' is notable for being recorded live in the studio.Their musical style is often described as a hybrid between THE GRATEFUL DEAD and early PINK FLOYD. They initially composed fairly long songs, typically of 10 to 13 minutes of length which blended the heaviness of the blues rock with the complexity of art rock, some of their compositions bordering on bein symphonic. 'Hej Du' is considered their masterpiece with compositions like hard rocking 'Du Taler Og Siger' and the almost twenty-two minutes long 'Perlesøen'. While their early efforts are characterized by a relatively dark atmosphere, their post-'Hej Du' albums contain shorter, livelier and more accessible tunes, which nonetheless retain several progressive elements. Lyrically, Alrune Rod dealt with complex topics like the human psyche as well as society and politics but were not above addressing more trivial topics like love and rock 'n' roll rebellion. While not having released any studio album since the mid 1970s, Alrune Rod still occasionally perform live shows at typically packed and sold out venues. Amon Düül II - Live in London

The first five Amon Düül albums are all you need. Yeti' (1970) is the best place to start . Go back a step to ' Phallus Dei' (1969) Forward to '71 for 'Tanz Der Lemminge' taking in Wolf City' (1972) and 'Carnival in Babylon' (1972) along the way. That's what I did anyway.....'Live in London' is also very good..Recorded at the Greyhound Croydon. Released a year after 'Wolf City''. 'Live in London' features tracks from 'Yeti' and Tanz Der Lemminge. The emphasis is on the 'rock', everything is set to the max .There's no attempt to replicate the complex studio work in a live setting , it's not prog..It's '72. Glam rules.!!!. .

Christine 23 Onna - Shiny Crystal Planet

re - post

Christine 23 Onna who describe themselves as a “space mondo psychedelic group'. The core members are electronica wizz Maso Yamazaki and former Angel' in Heavy Syrup guitarist Toda Fusao ... 'Shiny Crystal Planet' brimming with kinetic energy . Lysergic fuzzy Spaghetti-Western guitar riffs, spaced-out analogue synths . A deluge of white noise. Underpinned by funky breakbeats . Definitively Outer Spaced... Originally released in 2000, slipped under my radar until earlier this year...

Johnny Harris - Movements

re - post

Debut album by Arranger/Composer Johnny Harris. 'Movements' is split between covers and original compositions like the funky 'Stepping Stones' . 'Footprints on the Moon' was written for TV . Broadcasted the day of first moon landing.. Harris' arrangement's of 'rock' classics is magnificent. 'Give Peace A Chance' is given a funk make over . A grandiose brass section means The Doors 'Light My Fire' soars even 'higher' . 'Paint it Black' is brilliantly deconstructed , beginning slowly with mellow strings and piano , the pace quickens about half way in transforming into a wild orchestral extravaganza . Well worth a listen..

Brian Eno - Before and After Science

re - post

Before and After Science is really a study of "studio composition" whereby recordings are created by deconstruction and elimination: tracks are recorded and assembled in layers, then selectively subtracted one after another, resulting in a composition and sound quite unlike that at the beginning of the process. Despite the album's pop format, the sound is unique and strays far from the mainstream. Eno also experiments with his lyrics, choosing a sound-over-sense approach. When mixed with the music, these lyrics create a new sense or meaning, or the feeling of meaning, a concept inspired by abstract sound poet Kurt Schwitters (epitomized on the track "Kurt's Rejoinder," on which you actually hear samples from Schwitters' "Ursonate"). Before and After Science opens with two bouncy, upbeat cuts: "No One Receiving," featuring the offbeat rhythm machine of Percy Jones and Phil Collins (Eno regulars during this period), and "Backwater." Jones' analog delay bass dominates on the following "Kurt's Rejoinder," and he and Collins return on the mysterious instrumental "Energy Fools the Magician." The last five tracks (the entire second side of the album format) display a serenity unlike anything in the pop music field. These compositions take on an occasional pastoral quality, pensive and atmospheric. Cluster joins Eno on the mood-evoking "By This River," but the album's apex is the final cut, "Spider and I." With its misty emotional intensity, the song seems at once sad yet hopeful. The music on Before and After Science at times resembles Another Green World ("No One Receiving") and Here Come the Warm Jets ("King's Lead Hat") and ranks alongside both as the most essential Eno material. SUN RA - The Singles

re - post

Back in the mid-'50s, bandleader Sun Ra decided to get his music to his audience through a more direct process by starting his own label, Saturn Records. Equal parts creative futuristic vision and small-time Southern R&B bandstand hustle, these 45s were pressed in unbelievably small quantities (sometimes in runs of only 50 copies), making them the holy grail of Sun Ra collectibles. The collection of singles runs a neat 30-year time-frame and features everything from Sun Ra with an embryonic form of his Arkestra doing backup duties behind doo-wop groups and R&B slopbucket singers like 'Space Age Vocalist' Yochannon to wild-ass sonic experiements from the late '70s into the early '80s that would have atmospherically fit on any of his avant-garde albums. Pieced together for this release from the contributions of private collectors around the world -- and sonically cleaned up far beyond the audio capabilities of the original vinyl they were pressed on -- these 49 three-minute opuses will alternately confuse, astound, confound, delight, and illuminate Sun Ra fans of all stratas of involvement. A major piece of puzzle that is the man, now in place. ~ (All Music )

The Story of Them featuring Van Morrision.

re-post

"Now people say, who are, Or what are them, That little one sings and that big, One plays the guitar with, A thimble on his finger runs it up, And down the strings, The bass player don't shave much, I think they're all a little bit Touched, But the people came, And that is how we made our name" (The Story of Them)

The group formed in Belfast in April 1964 .Moving to England , the band soon established themselves as one of the best live acts on the R'n'B circuit. Maybe if the group had a manager in the mould of an Epstein or a Loog Oldham, they would have been massive.Or maybe the truth is 'these boys just didn't get on' .The original group stayed together for less than three years. Van Morrision split in the middle of a US tour, October 1966.. ....'The Story of Them' has a track list full of classic pop and R'n'B 'Here Comes The Night' 'Friday's Child' , 'Gloria', 'Mystic Eyes' , and my personal fave 'I Can only Give You Everything'. Not to mention the seminal cover 'Baby Please Don't Go'.....Them's influenced a slew of US Garage bands. Try the 'Nuggets.' box set...... Beck used the riff of 'I Can Only Give You Everything' for 'Devils Haircut ' and sampled Them's cover of 'It's All Over Now Baby Blue ' (Jack-Ass ) on the brilliant 'Odelay'..
