Sun Ra & His Arkestra - On Jupiter

On Jupiter is a great album recorded in 1979, about a year after Lanquidity. After easing in with the fairly brief title cut, a fairly mellow affair featuring June Tyson on vocals, listeners are treated to the all-out disco-funk of "U.F.O." Anchored by a monster bassline courtesy of Steve Clarke, this tune has fun ensemble vocals and great solos on guitar and tenor sax. This is as funky as Sun Ra ever got and really must be heard to be believed. Side two consists of "Seductive Fantasy," a lovely piece composed on top of a three-note bass ostinato that features lots of great piano from Ra and some interesting guitar sounds from either Skeeter McFarland or Taylor Richardson. John Gilmore gets plenty of room on this track as well and Luqman Ali's drumming is superb. This album is well worth picking up, but being one of those Saturn rarities makes it pretty difficult to do so. (allmusic)

Very nice compilation featuring early sessions recorded by the Pink Floyd circa 1965- 68 . Track one. Demo of 'Lucy Leave' dates from late 65 . Featuring original singer/ guitarist Bob Klose .Pink Floyd as a tight little 'rhythm and blues' band . I can't detect any real difference between 'See Emily Play' and the finished 45. 'In The Beechwoods' , unfinished Barrett composition. The rough sounding instrumental here was aired by Richard Wright to a journalist during an interview.. Final track , 'Jugband Blues' outtake . I never bought it into the Syd went mad myth. Barrett's final Floyd statement is coherent and real. His leaving the band had more to do with the record label demanding 'hits'. EMI rejected 'Scream Thy Last Scream/ Vegetable Man' single. (Follow up to 'Apples and Oranges' ) Both songs are really good and pretty far out . By the time the second album 'A Saucerful of Secrets ' was released Barrett had been booted out of the band . Roger Waters taking control . 'Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun' is psychedelia by numbers. The song's structured ambiance points the way to 'Echoes'.

Hawkwind - In Search of Space

Hawkwind's second LP is less of a brain overload than the debut. The main difference is almost the non existence of electronics...So.. anyway , ready for lift off..!!!.....Opening track 'You Shouldn't Do That' is a fifteen minute plus space-boogie epic . 'Master Of The Universe' is built around a delicious riff . The final track Children Of The Sun, begins promisingly. Doesn't really ever go anywhere. 'Seven by Seven' and 'Silver Machine' are included in the bonus tracks . 'In Search Of Space' is the missing link between Interstellar Overdrive and the 'Mothership Connection, maybe....
